Swords to Plowshares is one of the oldest community-based veterans organizations in the country (founded in 1974 in San Francisco). They operate supportive housing programs, free legal services for VA claims and discharge upgrades, employment training, and mental health support specifically targeted at homeless and low-income veterans.
